Great Russian food at Cafe 4 You

cafe4uCafe 4 You is located in Mitte, on Mohrenstraße, by the exit of the U-bahn station Stadtmitte. I went for a very nice lunch in this small cosy Russian place. The waiter was super friendly and the menu quite appealing, wether you like meat or not.
I had a mixed plate with pelmini filled with minced meat and wareniki with potatoe filling and fried onions, served with creme fraiche. Both were super tasty, but the potatoe was particularly delicious. Along with it, I had a very good vodka. The prices are really fair, very nice place indeed.

12 Apostel (Mitte), classy Italian restaurant

Apostel (3)I recently went to 12 Apostel with a few friends and had no idea what to expect, they only told me it was a good Italian restaurant. It is indeed.

They have two locations, we went to the one in Mitte, close to S Friedrichsstraße. There’s also a tram stop just right in front of the restaurant: Georgenstr/Am Kupfergraben (lines M1 and 12). They have a nice terrace, the inside is huge and lovely, the staff is very friendly and the service not too long.

I had a very nice Mai Tai to start with, quite refreshing, then I tried their beef carpaccio, wonderful! The pizzas are huge, thin crust, cooked in wood oven and you can see they’re hand crafted. I had the Simon with goat cheese and spicy salami, delicious.
The only negative point is that it is quite expensive, at least for Berlin standards, but can be a nice treat once in a while.

Chipps, yummy breakfast in Mitte

chipps (1)I recently went to Chipps for a late breakfast and it was great. It is located on Jägerstraße, very close to U Hausvogteiplatz station. I had a hard time choosing what to have, some much choice, good thing for non meat eaters: you can choose your bacon and sausages to be meat or vegan, whether omnivore, vegetarian or vegan, you should find something to your taste.

I ended up having the Lumber Jack: French toasts, scramble eggs and bacon, comes with maple syrup but I had without. French toasts were quite nice, eggs very good and (meat) bacon crispy and tasty. Everyone of us was satisfied, and we plan to go back to try other stuffs.

Place is cosy, staff is friendly, service quite fast and prices are OK for Mitte.

Chicago Williams BBQ

IMG_2469I often had heard of Chicago Williams BBQ and always wanted to try it, so when the opportunity to go showed up, I did not pass.

It’s located in Mitte, a few steps away from U Oranienburger Tor station. The place is very nice, the staff is very friendly and gives good advices, in German or English. I was really looking forward to try the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, but it was sold out when we got there, so I tried their pastrami, something I had never tried before, and it was pretty good. I had some mac and cheese on the side, also quite tasty. Portions are huge. Some of my friends got the ribs, I tried and they’re really good as well. Those who got the bbq chicken, the pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw were also very happy.
They also have nice frozen drinks, I tried their rhum and white coke one, really interesting.

To make it short, a place worth a visit and I do intend to go back there to try other stuffs.

QBA, the heat of Cuba in Berlin

IMG_2283I had often heard of QBA, a Cuban bar/restaurant in Mitte, on Oranienburger Straße, very close to the S-bahn station. I recently went for a nice evening with friends.

They have an interesting cocktail menu, I first tried their Tropical Punch, fruity rhum-based cocktail to go with my beef and cheese nachos. Food menu looks nice, I really liked the nachos de picadillo, quite huge portion actually.

A band was playing live that evening, as it often happens. Excellent latino music, along with an old Cuban rhum, perfect setting to warm up body and soul. Atmosphere is great, staff is very friendly, great service, prices are ok, a very good spot I might return to once in a while.

Rosengarten am Engelbecken

IMG_2239During the festivities for the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, we went along the old border where lighted balloons were aligned with a friend. At some point we started getting hungry and cold and decided to stop for dinner. We ended up having a nice experience at Rosengarten am Engelbecken close to U Heinrich-Heine-Straße, in Kreuzberg/Mitte.

This is a cosy little restaurant by the canal, very friendly staff, food mainly German. I hesitated between Käsespätzle and burger and finally went for the cheeseburger with bacon. Bun was slightly toasted, meat juicy and fresh, rosmarin potatoes really tasty as well. Really good. My friend was happy with her sausage and mashed potatoes. The waiter was very sweet and the prices really fair, a very good adress!

Belushi’s, cool sport bar in Mitte

belushi (4)Belushi’s is located next to Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, it’s a hostel and a sport bar and has also a big room downstairs that some people rent out for bg parties (I celebrated my 1st NYE in Berlin there). The bar itself is quite big, lots of screens everywhere, I happened to go and watch ice-hockey and rugby there.

But you don’t need to be sport enthousiast to enjoy this place, well of course if there’s a big sport event going on, expect lots of people and a hot atmosphere. A friend actually got me to go during the Soccer World Cup and I had to suffer the end of a game, but she said magic words to me: cocktails and burgers!

They have a small cocktail menu but they’re great and you can have most of them in a pitcher. The burgers are fantastic! I love the blue cheese burger with crispy bacon and blue cheese, and delicious beef patty!
