La Toscane, Metz, France

toscane-metzLa Toscane is located in the heart of Metz city center, in a small street with almost no traffic, thus sitting on the terrace when the weather is nice can be very enjoyable. The inside is not bad either.

The staff is friendly, the service quite good and depending on the number of guests can be quite quick.
I already went twice with friends who love this place and we were never disapointed, the pizza are delicious, I once had one with Parma ham, great, they do it the right way, that is the ham is added after cooking, since Parma ham is better uncooked. Their salads are quite impressive, pastas and meats and fish are also good. Desserts are really nice as well.

The price is correct for the amount and quality of food. I can highly recommand it to anyone looking for a nice Italian place in Metz.

Cheese Berlin 2014

IMG_2187Every year, early November, the Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg hosts Cheese Berlin, a big cheese festival with dozens of cheese stands.

The entrance fee is €2 and you’re also welcomed by a nice cheesy smell. First stop, right by the entrance on Eisenbahnstraße side, Sweet dreams are made of cheese was selling their Raclette plates, got an Alpen one, with potatoes and Bündnerfleisch (air-died beef), soooo tasty!

IMG_2186Another obligatory stop when I’m at Markthalle Neun, is the permanent Austrian cheese and ham vendor, I love their Bergkäse (Mountain cheese) and smoked ham. La Käserie was also there and I got a portion of their tasty Tartiflette, did not buy any cheese, I prefer going to their store, less crowdy.

I walked around the stands and tasted and bought cheeses. I even discovered a good Swedisch cheese, Wrångebäck, you never think about Swedisch cheeses but it’s quite good. I got myself cheeses from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austrian. And to go with them, Italian bread and Brandeburger bio potatoes. I won’t need to buy any cheese for a couple of weeks I guess!

This was a very nice market, heaven for cheese lovers. Can’t wait for Cheese 2015!

A Telha, Portugal in Berlin

restaurant-a-telha (2)After reading some nice reviews for this place and curious abour Portuguese food, I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did, we had a very nice evening at A Telha. The venue is very cosy, nicely decorated, very friendly staff.

I started with a nice caipirinha and tried one of their tapas: a plate of iberic ham, very nice. Some had the spicy potatoes and bacalau tapas and were very happy as well. I then had the Bife a Portuguesa, Portuguese style entrecote, white wine sauce, ham and an egg. Very tasty, it comes with roasted potatoes and vegetable. The fish lovers loved their fish, everybody was happy about their choice. I finished with a chocolate mousse for dessert, tasty but quite heavy. Crema catalana was also nice.

Really a nice spot indeed!

Luis, Palma de Mallorca, Spain

luis1I was staying in a hotel close to Luis in what seems to be a very touristy area, where the quality might be hard to find. I saw this classy looking restaurant and gave it a try, a real jewel! The terrace is very delightful, the staff extremly friendly (and they won’t answer to you in German or English when you talk to them in Spanish). The menu is mainly fish and meat oriented, being myself a meat lover, it looked very promising.
I first had the mousse as a starter, home made, very light, very tasty, what a delight! I had an entrecot after that, the meat was cooked perfectly (I wanted it rare and it was rare), very tender, it had been a long time I had not eaten such quality beef.
I was too full for a desert but they seemed interesting.
Definetely a very good choice, a place really worth the visit and the prices are fair.

Van Anh, nice Vietnamese in P-Berg

IMG_2121I am usually not really into Asian food but a friend organised a dinner at Van Anh, so I went, hoping to find something to my very picky taste.

It is located in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, at the corner of Oderberger Straße and Kastanien Allee, a few hundred meters away from U Eberswalder Straße. The restaurant is nice and cosy, very friendly staff.

The menu is quite large and has stuffs for everyone, omnivores, vegetarians, vegans. I had a wonderful piece of grilled beef with some sesame and crispy sweet potatoes, excellent. Also tried their hibiscus cocktail, very fresh and tasty. My friends loved the salad and tuna and duck.

I did not know a lot about Vietnamese food and I was positively surprised.

Hanabi, flavours of Japan in Berlin

IMG_2104Some time ago, I took a long S-bahn and bus ride to go to Rudow, South of Neukölln, to go and try Hanabi. It’s a lovely Japanese restaurant recommanded by a friend who’s crazy about their Takoyaki, balls filled with octopus. I tested their skewers, beef, chicken and pork (they also have lamb), they were tasty, good sauce, and with a big bowl of rice in addition, I was fully satisfied. Some of us also had sushis and soups and were happy about it. The venue is small but cosy, very friendly staff and fair prices.   IMG_2105 IMG_2106 IMG_2108 IMG_2109 IMG_2110 IMG_2111 IMG_2112

Heureux Comme Alexandre, Metz, France

alex2I had a delightful evening at Alexandre‘s! The staff is extremly friendly, the atmosphere very nice, the design as well, the food is fantastic. The place is cute and located in the city center.

Every thing is home made using local products, giving a high quality to the meals, I had the Lorraine fondue, delicious, if the quantity is too small for you, they even give you a small refill. The local ham and cold sausages (Charcuterie Lorraine) is also very tasty. I did not personnaly tried the meat options but it seemed also very good value.
All in all I can highly recommend it.
